Rice met today with a group of governors representing states in Nigeria’s north and middle belt to discuss issues of strategic significance to the United States and Nigeria.  They discussed the importance of strong and inclusive governance as the region works to confront security threats, including from Boko Haram now known as ISIL's West Africa Province and from clashes among ethnic, religious, and other groups in Nigeria.  

Washington, DC - U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon will visit Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, October 24–29. This will be Under Secretary Shannon’s first visit to Central Asia. New York - A Long Island, New York, medical doctor and the former Health Minister of Guyana, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to illegally distribute oxycodone, a highly addictive prescription pain medication.  The guilty plea follows an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Custom’s Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) in New York, the United States Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Long Island Tactical Diversion Squad, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
