Carson City, Nevada - The Office of Vital Records (OVR) within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) recently received almost $218,000 to improve the quality of cause of death information on mortality records.  This is a two year endeavor.

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities released its First Fact sheet on the various ballot initiatives that voters will consider this November. This Fact Sheet discusses the Medical Patient Tax Relief Act, which is an initiative to amend the Nevada Constitution to provide sales and use tax exemptions for individuals requiring certain medical, oxygen delivery and mobility-enhancing equipment. Currently, the state exempts prosthetic devices from sales and use tax, and the proposed amendment would expand exemptions to include items such as: oxygen tanks and concentrators, ventilators, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, nebulizers, drug infusion devices, feeding pumps, infant apnea monitors, hospital beds, bath and shower aids, wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and crutches.

Carson City, Nevada - Richard Whitley, Director of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), recently announced the appointment of Edward Ableser, Ph.D., as the new Administrator for the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD). Mr. Ableser began his new position August 22, 2016.

Carson City, Nevada - Nevada Volunteers, the Governor's Commission on Service, is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2016 Governor's Points of Light Awards, the highest honor bestowed on a volunteer in Nevada. The award is given in 7 categories: Northern Nevada Individual; Southern Nevada Individual; Rural Nevada Individual; Nonprofit and Community Organization Volunteer Program; Corporate Volunteer Program; Volunteer Program Serving Veterans and Volunteer Manager.  Finalists will be invited to the Governor’s Points of Light Award Ceremony on September 29, 2016 at Bally’s Las Vegas where the winner for each category will be announced.

Las Vegas, Nevada - After holding public hearings and accepting thousands of comments and letters from interested parties on both sides of the controversy surrounding the proposed racecourse through sections of the Basin and Range National Monument in Nevada, the BLM granted full approval to go ahead with the race last Friday, August 12.

Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval is pleased to announce in partnership with Nevada Volunteers, the Governor’s Commission on Service, that Nevada has received $2.2 million in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service. This funding will support 321 AmeriCorps members serving across the state.
