Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Brian Ayala to the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Victor Chaltiel to the Governor’s Board of Economic Development.  Both appointments are effective immediately.

Carson City, Nevada - Chad Westom was recently named chief for the Bureau of Health Statistics, Planning, Epidemiology and Response (HSPER), a bureau within the Nevada State Health Division.  He replaces Luana Ritch, who is now with the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services.

Carson City, Nevada - At the November, 2012 meeting of the Nevada State Board of Examiners, Christina Demopoulos, DDS, was appointed to the position of State Dental Director. This new position was created to provide a professional spokesperson for Nevada’s Oral Health Program. The Oral Health Program oversees the oral health needs of Nevadans including surveillance and evaluation, fluoridation, dental sealants, education and support.

Washington, DC - UNLV architecture professor Alfredo Fernandez-Gonzalez was named the 2012 Nevada Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Authorities in Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County have declared a state of emergency due to expected local flooding and wind events in our area.“This morning, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Truckee River area and Susanville,” said Aaron Kenneston, Washoe County Emergency Manager. “We are joining forces with our regional partners to declare a state of emergency in Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County in order to access state resources that can help us maintain public safety as we deal with the impact of this 25-year flood. Those resources include the Nevada National Guard, the Division of Forestry, and other agencies that specialize in emergency disaster management and relief.”
