The first meeting of the committee will take place on March 7, 2016 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Las Vegas City Council Chambers in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval today signed Executive Order 2016-04 reconvening the New Energy Industry Task Force to advise the Governor’s Office of Energy on ways to promote the development of renewable energy and distributed energy resources in Nevada.

Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has named Steve Canavero as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, effective immediately. Sandoval made this decision following interviews with each of the three candidates who were recommended by the State Board of Education. Prior to this appointment, Canavero was named Interim-Superintendent following the announcement that then-Superintendent Dale Erquiaga would join Governor Sandoval’s staff as Chief Strategy Officer.

Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval received the attached letter from District IX Regional Administrator Jared Blumenfeld of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in response to the Governor’s January 29th letter which insisted on more time for the State to continue to meet and engage with local officials, tribal leaders, and stakeholders in order to reach a solution regarding the clean-up of the Anaconda Copper Mine site. Governor Sandoval issued the following statement in response to the letter:

Carson City, Nevada - Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has endorsed a Statement of Emergency at the request of Interim-Superintendent of Public Instruction Steve Canavero to issue provisional teaching licenses, effective immediately.  This authorization will allow Nevada to address the urgent teacher shortage through the issuance of provisional licenses to a large number of otherwise qualified individuals who would not have been eligible to become Nevada teachers prior to Sandoval’s approval. The request follows a recent change in federal law which prohibited the State from issuing provisional licenses because of risking education federal funding.

Reno, Nevada - A former Reno mortgage broker was sentenced today to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, 150 hours of community service, and ordered to pay restitution for embezzling $260,000 from a Reno company’s employee pension plan, announced U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden for the District of Nevada.
