Las Vegas, Nevada - The 13th Annual Free Comic Book Day returns on Saturday May 3 with more than 2000 comic shops in over 60 countries participating, including locally-owned Cosmic Comics.

Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is the world's largest annual comic book event, with more than 4.5 million comics available to be given away free to those who visit a participating retailer. More than 50 special Free Comic Book Day editions are being published, featuring a wide variety of entertainment for all ages and audiences, from kids' comics to content that is on the leading edge of pop culture. More than one million people visited participating comic shops last year and that number is expected to grow as it has every year since the first Free Comic Book Day in May 2002.
The event was founded by ComicsPRO board member and comic book retailer Joe Field as a way to introduce new readers to comics, while calling back former readers and thanking current fans.  “Free Comic Book Day calls attention to a very rich and diverse entertainment medium," said Field. "If you want to know where Hollywood gets its best ideas, then your local comic shop is the place to be!"
This year’s list of free comics include: Guardians of the Galaxy, Archie, Hello Kitty, Spongebob Squarepants, Transformers vs. GI Joe, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Smurfs and many more fun-filled comics!  A complete list can be found at
Free Comic Book Day also calls attention to the creativity, strength and community importance of locally owned comic book stores. With new comics arriving every Wednesday, comic shops buzz with activity all year round, including special events like artist & writer signings, graphic novel book clubs, art seminars and more.

“I encourage those of you who are visiting comic book stores for the first time, to make it a point to come back week after week," said Field.  "Your local retailer will help you find some great reading material that will thrill you!"
