Las Vegas, Nevada - Esperanza and the Evangelical Environmental Network will host the first Southern Nevada Day of Prayer for Creation Care on Tuesday May 20, 2014 in Las Vegas.

The day will culminate in a celebration worship service featuring local clergy at “The Wealthy Place” Ebenezer Church of God in Christ’s Community & Fellowship Center (1072 W. Bartlett Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89106).

The Southern Nevada of prayer for creation care will focus on the biblical obligations of Christians to be stewards of God's creation, the impact of stewardship on human life, especially children and future generations, and how local pollution and climate change impacts the Latino community.

Air pollution is a significant problem in Las Vegas. Las Vegas-Henderson, NV ranks in the top 10 cities in the country for Ozone Pollution according to the American Lung Association, with over 35,000 children with pediatric Asthma. Climate change will likely make this problem worse and exacerbate many local pollution issues.

Beyond the challenges of pollution and climate change there is hope. Participants will learn about the new ways people are creating solar jobs and viewing climate change as an opportunity to innovate with new solutions for food, building construction, transportation, infrastructure, and much more.

Hispanic evangelical Christians believe that the protection of children is at the heart of who we are. As such, climate change, air pollution, and environmental toxins should be non-partisan issues and that our elected officials need to take steps to address these issues.
