Las Vegas, Nevada - A Las Vegas, Nevada, resident, who served in the U.S. Marines Corps, was convicted by a federal jury yesterday in the District of Nevada of multiple fraud charges after an eight-day trial, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Caroline D. Ciraolo of the Justice Department’s Tax Division.

Las Vegas, Nevada - Hector Absi, 47, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was arrested today by FBI agents at his home in Las Vegas.  He is charged in a 16-count indictment, unsealed today, that was returned by a federal grand jury in Sacramento, California, on February 11.  The indictment charges Absi with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and securities fraud; substantive counts of mail, wire and securities fraud; and with other securities-related charges, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner for the Eastern District of California announced.


Las Vegas, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval traveled to Las Vegas this morning following the incident on the Las Vegas Strip last night. At approximately 8:30 a.m. Governor Sandoval was briefed by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joe Lombardo on the ongoing situation, response, and investigation. Immediately following this briefing, Governor Sandoval visited University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) where he thanked the trauma center staff and hospital administration.

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Justice Department today announced that a former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer, Richard Thomas Scavone, 49, was indicted on charges of violating the civil rights of A.O., an unnamed victim, by using excessive force during an arrest and charges of obstruction of justice for falsifying a report.  The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in the District of Nevada.
