Carson City, Nevada - Governor Brian Sandoval today announced the appointment of Dr. James Daniel Carpenter to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Dr. Carpenter will replace Pat Lundvall, effective today.
“Dr. Carpenter has worked as the personal physician and surgeon for the United States Olympic Boxing Team and many of the sport’s top fighters. He has worked with the athletes before and after competition and will bring a unique perspective regarding their health and well-being,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “He is an accomplished physician and I am confident his knowledge will benefit the top athletic regulatory body in Nevada.”
“Pat Lundvall has been a strong advocate for fighter safety and has specifically called greater attention to research surrounding head injuries. I am grateful for her service to our state and I know that her work developing regulatory guidelines will have a lasting impact on this rapidly-growing industry,” concluded Sandoval.
Dr. J. Daniel Carpenter is the founder of Eye & Cosmetic Surgery, where he has been serving patients in Southern Nevada for more than 17 years. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California with degrees in Biology, Psychology and a minor with honors in Bioethics. He completed his osteopathic medical school training in Kansas City, Missouri, where he graduated cum laude. Dr. Carpenter is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Refractive Surgeons, and the Christian Ophthalmology Society and is certified by the American Board of Ringside Medicine. Dr. Carpenter has served as a physician and surgeon on the USA Boxing Team which provided him with the opportunity to travel with many American boxers and provided professional care prior to and following their matches.
