Las Vegas, Nevada - Leaders across the state are working together to prevent suicide in Nevada. Teal and purple ribbons represent suicide awareness and prevention, so on Sept. 10 for World Suicide Prevention Day, the Governor’s Mansion and State Capitol in Carson City, the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, the Las Vegas City Hall and the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno are “Turning Nevada Teal and Purple” for World Suicide Prevention Day.

“By turning the various Nevada communities teal and purple we are bringing in the power of connection which in turn builds alliance, resiliency and strength for those at risk of suicide and brings opportunity for a positive future,” said Janett Massolo, the statewide walk coordinator, and trainer and outreach facilitator for the Office of Suicide Prevention.

Suicide Prevention Week 2018 (Sept. 9-15) will be highlighted in Nevada by the 12th Annual “Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope” on Sept. 15 in 12 communities across the state. The goal of the event is to increase awareness of the devastating effects suicide has on our nation and state, and to remember those who have been lost to suicide.  The event is sponsored by the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention with support from the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention and the various community coalitions. Together we can reduce the number of families and communities impacted by a needless and tragic death.

Most of the community walk events are opening registration at 8 a.m. You can register online or download a printable registration form.  For more information on each individual site, please visit the website at www.nvsuicideprevention.org.  For more information on suicide prevention, including information on learning the signs of suicidal behavior, go to www.suicideprevention.nv.gov or #BeThere.
